Wargaming Prague believes that educating the next generation of gaming industry professionals is essential to ensure continued success. As such, Wargaming Prague offers a range of opportunities for talented individuals to complete a unique, first-class internship within Wargaming Forge project at a large international game development studio. Learn on the job from top-notch experts while gaining hands-on experience and taking the first step of your game development career. 

As a 2D Art Intern, you’ll join the production team that creates 2D content for World of Tanks. Under the supervision of your mentors, you’ll learn all the necessary skills for producing and delivering high-quality, game-ready assets. You’ll have the opportunity to improve your technical and artistic skills while delivering game assets and becoming a part of World of Tanks’ family of artists. 

This paid, part-time (20 hrs/wk) internship lasts for 4 months from August 15, 2022 to December 15, 2022. Preference will be given to candidates who are eligible to work in the Czech Republic (EU nationals and individuals holding a valid work/study visa). 

What will you learn? 

  • How to be a 2D artist in the gaming industry 
  • Asset creation pipeline 
  • Different techniques and approaches 
  • Creation of in-game assets, landscapes, and promo art 
  • Complex approaches of art creation from icons to HD map loading screens 
  • Proper 2D rendering (with 3D tools as base) 
  • Environment design, matte painting, camouflage/style creation 

Who are your mentors? 

Victor Staris (Concept artist/illustrator)  

In addition to 3 years in the game development industry as a concept artist and illustrator, Victor is an experienced environment artist and speaker who delivers talks at conferences. He even runs his own YouTube channel! Victor can work as a speed painter and produce huge, complex, time-demanding key art. 

Andrey Petrukovich (2D Artist/illustrator)  

With 8 years of experience in web design and 8 years at Wargaming as a Lead Artist and 2D artist, Andrey has managed several artists, designers, and external partners. He has supervised content production for several projects, and has worked on web pages, in-game content, and training sessions for other artists. He recently joined the Prague team as a generalist. Andrey’s superpowers are game engines and the capability to dive into technical issues. 

In addition to these mentors, you’ll also take part in lectures and discussions with members from other offices, such as art directors and art managers.

What are we looking for? 

  • Portfolio that represents your current works 
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of fine art (e.g. color theory, line, anatomy, composition, light and shadow, etc.)
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop or equivalent  (knowledge of 3D is a plus)
  • Great imagination and passion
  • Ability to matte paint and create realistic art
  • Conversational English
