gamescom means lots of fans, both new and old, checking out the Wargaming booth. There’s always something cool going on across our titles, and lots of awesome events in store for anyone checking out the booth. We chatted to some of the staff to see what their highlight of the day was.
Artur Plociennik—World of Warships Global Publishing Producer
When Artur is not on stage showing World of Warships to the press and public, you can find him giving interviews and getting everyone hyped for Wargaming’s latest and greatest installment to its “World of” series.
The highlight for me was the fact that we were able to announce the German Tech Tree that is coming near the end of this year. I’ve already been on the forums and seen threads like “Thank you, Wargaming, finally German warships are coming!” There’s still a lot of stuff to be said during gamescom, because it’s only the first day. We haven’t even revealed everything yet.
Obviously, the gameplay was cool, and it was great to see the audience react to our first official gameplay presentation. It wasn’t just because of the German ships, but because of the whole thing. Everybody was hyped and they were really enjoying the destroyer gameplay. It’s great because it wasn’t only fun to play, but fun to watch.
Jeff Gregg—Lead Game Designer for World of Tanks Console
Jeff is one of the masterminds behind World of Tanks Console from Chicago-Baltimore. You can find him on the stage with Andy Dorizas, Lead Artist, tossing out T-shirts and showing everyone how shiny World of Tanks on Xbox One looks.
Well, we were the first guys up on stage giving the presentation. It was really exciting to see the audience, find out what everything is like—kind of like a dress rehearsal for how the rest of the event is going. It’s easy to see why we come here. There’s nothing like it.
Rob Lee—Content Editor
No stranger to the blog, Rob is at gamescom covering each of our titles and providing daily recaps for all our portals.
My highlight of the day was coming in early this morning making sure everything is working for World of Tanks Blitz and World of Tanks Generals on iPad. Today, I’ve been setting up my laptop and soaking up color from the event—I have a lot of articles for various Wargaming web portals to write, and I can’t wait to get started. Make sure you check out my articles where I’ll be telling everyone about the Wargaming booth.
Aleksandra Chmielewska—Community Product Specialist for Mobile
You can find Aleksandra helping out the press and public in our World of Tanks mobile zone. She’s there to guide new and veteran players with World of Tanks Blitz and World of Tanks Generals.
Today we were showing World of Tanks Generals and World of Tanks Blitz at their zone in the Wargaming booth. It was really great to hear all the feedback for World of Tanks Generals, because it was the first time we were showing anyone the iOS version of the game. There were quite a few players who were asking if they could get the game there, and World of Tanks Generals was the first game that many of them wanted to try out. They said that the game was really cool, and it’s the direction that Wargaming should be heading in. We also had a lot of players who had tried out the browser version, too.
I also recognized a lot of players who were playing World of Tanks Blitz last year had come back again, and they liked the game a lot.
Ana Claver—EU Internal Communications
Ana has been racing back and forth between our B2C and B2B booths. You can find her snapping pictures, interviewing the Wargaming staff, and keeping everyone up-to-date with all things at gamescom.
I was busy with the B2B, which has definitely been the best of the past three years. Today, I was busy talking to Keith Anderson and Al King for the video that we’re preparing to recap the event. It’s cool that WG Labs is being discussed a lot at the show, and the B2B team are dealing with hundreds of people coming to the booth throughout the week.
Fabien Dupont—Customer Support Team Lead
At gamescom, Customer Support is the majority of the guys and girls that the public interact with at our booth. Being a Team Lead means that Fabien is responsible for making sure our staff and players are happy, organizing everyone, and, most importantly, ensuring people get our goodie bags.
This year’s organization is the same type as we had last year, with everyone on the floor interacting with the gamers and the press. The issue that we have every year is the goodie bags. Every day, we always have to refill them and make sure that we have enough for everyone. What people may not know, is that they don’t arrive at gamescom already made—we have to do it ourselves in a small room in the booth.
Today was a little more relaxed than the upcoming days—almost like a rehearsal. Tomorrow will definitely be one of the busiest days for us. We’re all looking forward to it.
Piotr Stremlau—IT Technician
As part of our IT Technicians, Piotr and the others are the ones behind the scenes at gamescom. Making sure your Wi-Fi connection is stable, fixing any problems with presentations—all things tech are their domain.
I’ve been on-call in the B2B (business area) for most of the day. There are lots of devices not just in our booth, but all around the arena. A highlight for me is when nothing goes wrong, everything works smoothly. But we did have some issues—someone plugged their HDMI into their motherboard instead of the graphics port—then you have to run in and fix everything. Our days are pretty long, so after a lot of people have gone, we’ll still be staying and making sure that everything is okay for the next day.
