So there’s a bunch of cool new content that’s in store for World of Tanks Update 9.5, and we thought it’d be a great opportunity to offer some tips about the new levels and tanks that help give you the edge over the competition—all in one convenient blog post!
Uncharted Territory
There’s 2 original maps for you to battle across in 9.5 and they’ll cater to 2 different playing scenarios.
Ghost Town
On a new map for Team Battles (eSports), players will find themselves in a desolate and unforgiving urban landscape dotted with medium-high angular buildings. The central cluster of buildings and smaller structures on the outskirts mean that players may find themselves heading for the center as a hotbed for activity. There’s a lot of cover to be hand, but a player must be cautious of the overall flat terrain that may make them a target for long-range players on the outskirts—but they’ll be just as vulnerable too.
Here’s what Arclit, captain of Schoolbus had to say about Ghost Town:
“Ghost Town—very interesting for battle command map. I participated in the initial tests and it should be noted that, as a city, it is pushing for an active game, urban skirmishes, and provides the ability to bypass the enemy in the open space, which is also present on the map.”
Teamwork and awareness of your surroundings is going to be key in this map, as well as locating those spots that provide you with cover without acting as a chokepoint if you need to get some breathing space.
Winterberg
A familiar level for those that have battled in Ruinberg on Fire, but with less fire and more snow—the hint’s in the name. Players will find a dusting of snow over buildings and the surrounding land and this presents its own challenges. Though usual tactics still apply (engagement through the central channel, east has quick, maneuverable terrain and the upper west usually contains more stationary targets), camo may be more effective than you might think. Humans can see more shades of green than any other color, so it can be more of game-changer than you might think when there’s a fresh blanket of snow on the battlefield. Keep your eyes sharp.
The British Contingent
So there’s some long-awaited tanks from Britain making their debut in 9.5—10 in total. Here’s some tips for a number of the tanks that are available.
Archer
Instantly recognizable thanks to its rear-facing cannon, the Archer tank destroyer is known for its insane reverse speed—almost three-times the speed of its forward movement. It’s a great tank for surprise and a definitive “getaway” vehicle for when things get a little too hot. The Archer is a tank that gets in there, does the damage, then hightails it out of there.
Sherman Firefly
A long-awaited vehicle for the fans, the Sherman Firefly medium tank is the British version of the American M4 tank, equipped with a devastating 17-pounder. That cannon is deadly in the right hands, and combined with good mobility and accuracy on the move, the Sherman is most useful in a “pack attack” where you and several other teammates can dish out the damage to anyone unlucky enough to be in your line of sight.
FV4005 Stage 2
The FV4005 Stage 2 tank destroyer is a lot more mobile than the existing British Tier X Tank Destroyer Level 10 FV215b. This tank has some great alpha damage potential, good penetration and mobility. With these facts in mind, the FV4005 Stage 2 is a support vehicle that can pick off players from a distance and its mobility allows it to zip out of danger before you’re turned to scrap.
Charioteer
The Charioteer is a tank destroyer based on the Cromwell chassis, armed with a beastly gun for its tier. It’s got excellent dynamics, rotating turret, great shell velocity and penetration, not to mention HESH ammunition. What this means is that the Charioteer is a very versatile vehicle in the right hands; you can play both as a medium tank and tank destroyer, and it can deal damage to pretty much any other tank on the field. In short, this tank’s an all-rounder.
The Panther’s on the Prowl
We’ll also see a new Premium tank stalking the battlefield in 9.5: The Panther Ausf. F Schmalturm 8.8 L71, a German tier 8 medium tank that has an extremely accurate long-range weapon and high credit income. You can wrack up numbers on the battlefield and credits in the bank.
The Panther’s effective both at long-range and mid-range distances, you’ve got a solid reserve of hit-points, and with the ability to render flank support and support allies at long distances, it’s deadly when used to its potential.
We’ve seen some hot additions designed to keep your warm over the winter months, and we hope you put these tips to good use!
