Because the New Year is often a time for reflection and reminiscing, we decided to ask some of the World of Tanks Blitz team to journey through the fog of war in search of their fondest memories of destruction, close calls, and the spoils of battle.
Rob Lee—General Content Editor
Rob, resident Content Specialist at Wargaming, spoke about the SU-100Y tank, which was designed not only to operate as a self-propelled gun, but was also used to lay bridges, transport explosives, and recover tanks destroyed or damaged on the battlefield.
My favorite World of Tanks Blitz memory actually concerns a premium tank—the SU-100Y. It’s a big old Soviet box of doom not so well known for its armor. However, in this one battle, my third or fourth, I think, this tank was bouncier than a trampoline. Every time I fired, I then had to start dodging while the gun reloaded. No matter who was firing back, the shells kept pinging off the edges—maybe I was in a disguised KV-4?
My favorite memory outside of the game was when we could finally announce the Android release and bring this fantastic, unique game to the whole mobile market. Plenty of fresh targets to shoot at too. Here’s to the next year!
Joshua Lowski—German Language Content Specialist
Josh talks about the E-50M, a tank that only survives in blueprints, but a vehicle that the World of Tanks team brought to life.
My best moment in World of Tanks Blitz was when I actually got my first Tier 10 tank, the E-50M. I already liked the E-50 and I already own the E-50M on the PC version but I wanted it in Blitz as well. So you can pretty much imagine how happy I was when I bought it. After my first battle I already got my Ace Tanker medal, so I guess this tank will be my favorite in this game (Unless the Batchat is coming to World of Tanks Blitz, which is indisputably the best tank ever).
The Batchat is an experimental tank that underwent trials but never entered full production nor saw service. Two prototypes were built and in the World of Tanks community, the Batchat is known as the “Batmobile” for its assassin-like qualities.
David Dauvilliers—Mobile Publishing Producer
David talked about Raseiniai’s Heroes Medal, a notoriously tough medal to acquire.
One of my favorite moments while playing World of Tanks Blitz was when I receive my first Raseiniai Heroes’ Medal, the one when you destroy all 7 enemy vehicles. You can feel the pressure with the last one standing in the map, and you do all you can to make sure that no other remaining players of your team kill it for you after such energy spent.
Raseiniai’s Heroes Medal is based on the Battle of Raseiniai, which occurred in a city in Lithuania. The battle took place over 4 days in June 1941 and saw German forces take on Soviet forces. The latter had 245 tanks, the former, 749. During the melee, 704 Soviet tanks were destroyed, while German forces only suffered light damage.
My favorite tank is the Fury one, because there is story behind it. We worked hard to have something related to the movie inside the game and in the end, we can see it playable in-game. It is really fun. Oh and I love the custom garage we did, especially the one for Halloween.
In 2014, Wargaming collaborated with Sony Pictures and their motion picture, FURY. As part of some great and fitting cross-promotion, World of Tanks included the iconic Sherman M4 tank for players to take command of.
Aleksandra Chmielewska—Community Product Specialist
Aleksandra talks about an experimental tank and when World of Tanks Blitz debuted at gamescom 2014, an event which in 2013 saw more than 340,000 visitors and 635 exhibitions from 88 countries!
One of my favorite tanks is the Pz. IV hydrostat. It’s a tier V German medium tank, which was given as a reward to the European Beta testers. It’s pretty agile, so can be used for absolutely anything on the battlefield.
The Pz. IV hydrostat was an experimental version of the PzKpfw IV Ausf. G, incorporating hydrostatic drive, and began development in 1944. However, trials were discontinued due to the unreliability of the transmission and the lack of spare parts—not something you have to worry about in World of Tanks Blitz!
When it comes to my favorite moments related to World of Tanks Blitz—it’s definitely gamescom 2014. It was the first time in Europe that we were showing the game on such a big event. It was really great to see how enthusiastic the players were about our brand new mobile game.
