Wargaming at PAX Prime 2015

With any Wargaming event, fans can expect a boatload of games, lots of free goodies, and an awesome booth. This year’s PAX Prime was no different, and we’re bringing you the recap of all the goings on.

World of Warships had made the journey from gamescom in Cologne, all the way to Washington to showcase the intense clashes players can expect in the latest addition to the “World of” series. PAX Prime was host to the very first North American World of Warships tournament, held on Sunday right at the Wargaming booth. Making up the teams was one pro player and five PAX attendees. The crowds flooded the booth to check out how each team faired on the turbulent high seas, blowing the metal out of each other. Of course, torpedoes tearing through the water was a fan favorite, as always.

The born again legend that is Master of Orion also made its convention debut to the public. The game’s Executive Producer, Randy King, and Art Consultant, Jeff Dee, showed a sneak peek of what people can expect from the reimagining of the 4X legend.

“I’m so excited to be part of this and to be part of the unveiling of Master of Orion to the community,” said Randy. “And I’m expecting us to definitely do BETTER than what we’re hoping for. I think our numbers are going to astound us!”

The team also had some interstellar companions, as cosplaying Bulrathi, Sakkra, and Mrrshan took a break from conquering the stars to join the people on stage. Fans also had the chance to snap a few pictures before the visitors had to blast off again.

Also, on the very first day of PAX, the Master of Orion Collector’s Edition was announced, which proved to be a hit with the press.

“We’ve been showing Master of Orion, and this is the first time we’re giving the press hands-on access,” said Wargaming Senior Corporate Communications Manager, Kelly James. “We’ve had a lot of journalists that were all hardcore Master of Orion players that keep asking to come back because they want more hands-on time with the game!”

“Personally, I think the retro art function is the coolest aspect of this Collector’s Edition outside of the three classic Master of Orion digital titles,” Matt Heywood of Entertainment Buddha. “It’s always mind blowing to see just how improved a game can look using modern tools when compared to its old school look and feel.”

A Wargaming booth wouldn’t be complete without some World of Tanks intel, with the news that World of Tanks on Console has amassed over 1.2 million downloads through the Xbox One marketplace, which is almost 10% of total Xbox One players.

Live streamers and pro players were back bringing live action to those at home. They were busy streaming World of Tanks and World of Warships, giving away prizes from our partners like HyperX, Alienware, Logitech, and Sandboxr.

There was also lots of cool swag on offer—the biggest PAX giveaway we’ve ever been a part of, in fact. Fans waited in line again and again to play the games and get their hands on one of the all new fan-designed shirts. Close to 10,000 shirts were given away during the four day event.

PAX Prime was an awesome experience for all those at Wargaming America who worked tirelessly to build an unforgettable show. Next up, Wargaming will be visiting the Tokyo Game Show, with even more great surprises in store.
